Drug Deals Diabetes a One-Two Punch
Abstract: Science 301, 290 (2003).
An enzyme called glucokinase regulates two key functions that fail in diabetics: secretion of insulin by the pancreas and production of glucose by the liver. A news story on page 290 of the 18 July 2003 issue of Science discusses a report of a glucokinase activator that caused blood sugar levels in diabetic mice to plummet by half.
