Sci. Aging Knowl. Environ., 11 February 2004 NEWS FOCUSA Turn From the WormHuman version of worm longevity protein shuts off rather than activates gene regulatorR. John Davenport http://sageke.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/2004/6/nf16Abstract: Worms and humans don't share the same turn-ons, according to new work. A particular nematode age-retarding protein works by activating another longevity promoter, but scientists have now shown that the mammalian version instead shuts down the second molecule. This difference might reflect mammals' need to thwart cancer. Citation: R. J. Davenport, A Turn From the Worm. Sci. Aging Knowl. Environ. 2004 (6), nf16 (2004).
