Down With p53!

Curtailing cancer-fighting protein's activity lengthens fly life

Mitch Leslie

Abstract: Tampering with a cancer-preventing protein sounds like a prescription for early death. But fruit flies last longer if researchers cut the protein's activity in the bugs' neurons, according to new research. The findings suggest that hampering a protein called p53 in particular tissues might slow aging.
